What is My Obscure Designs?
So, maybe you’re wondering, “What the hell is My Obscure Designs and why should I care?” That’s a fair question (well, two questions actually if we’re being precise). Here’s the fair answer (or rather, answers): My Obscure Designs came into existence because it needs to exist. You should care because you have the chance to express yourself in ways that mass-marketed designs won’t let you.
We Live in a Society Where Corporations Dictate and Direct What We’re Interested In
Don’t get the wrong impression here. We aren’t hippies living in a yurt in the woods and decrying the whole capitalism thing. Nope, not even close (although there’s nothing wrong with being a hippie and living in a yurt in the woods). However, just because we live in a big society served by big companies doesn’t mean we have to limit our interests to what mass media tells us they should be.
Now, imagine this scenario… you go into the local Target or Walmart to buy a themed t-shirt. Your choices are pretty limited. You can buy something emblazoned with a car brand, a classic rock band, or maybe Star Wars and Star Trek themes. That’s great, but what if you want something more than that? What if you want something so unusual and off-the-beaten path that people are asking you about it? What are your options?
At one time, you might have headed to a local mall and sought out a store like Hot Topic. Well, good luck finding a Hot Topic these days… or a mall for that matter!
Even if you find a Hot Topic somewhere, what have you got? A bunch of smutty suggestions on t-shirts maybe or weird sword and sorcery imagery. Again, that’s great. But what if you want something really and truly unique on that t-shirt? That is why My Obscure Designs exists.
My Obscure Designs: Unique Designs for Unique People
We collect and restore old and obscure artwork designs. Why? Well, why not! Someone has to do it. We figured, why not us?
We scour the internet in search of amazing things buried in muddy, poor resolution images. There’s something beautiful there just waiting to be found. We find it and recapture that beauty.
My Obscure Designs carefully restores low-res images so that they will reproduce well in print. In addition to sharpening images, we correct faded colors, paper tears, holes, etc. so that you have a fresh, clear design on a piece of merch.
Your Alternatives Aren’t Exactly Great
You see yourself as pretty smart so you might be tempted to grab artwork off the internet and print your own t-shirt. But that is a bit tougher than it seems.
Nearly all images on the internet are low-resolution (so that websites can load quickly). They look fine onscreen but are nearly always far too low in resolution to look good or even acceptable in print. In fact, some are so low res that they don’t even look good on screens. Such designs deserve to be seen in all their glory. My Obscure Designs is dedicated to bringing you unique designs that can be fully enjoyed.
Be Unique. Be Obscure.
Our motto at My Obscure Designs is, why be conformist? Why wear a t-shirt design that millions of other people are wearing? Isn’t it more fun knowing the design on your merch is shared by maybe 50 or 100 people rather than one million? Or you get off on the fun in knowing that maybe no one else in your entire state owns this design on merch.
Maybe you like the idea of having the design for a long-gone whiskey on a sweatshirt. Perhaps you’re into a tote bag with a vintage ad for “Bayer Heroin” on it. We got you covered. But we aren’t always trapped in the past (although we usually are). We also do designs that are very much relevant in today’s climate.
