Fake History of the Newfoundland Skeet Bags
The Skeet Bags came to life in 1904 during a drunken party of businessmen in Saint John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Having no money to properly outfit the team, the first several seasons that the Skeet Bags played, they wore civilian clothes with “Skeet Bags” drawn on their shirts in blood.
As the years passed, the Newfoundland Skeet Bags secured a reputation as a sanctuary for criminals and those trying to evade the law. In recent years, player Sam Sleeveen went on trial for murder but the conviction was overturned. He was later convicted for robbery of a convenience store on Duckworth Street in Saint John’s. His twin brother, Carl, (also a member of the team) is often mistaken for him and beaten up as a result.
The Newfoundland Skeet Bags play at Taylor Gossard Memorial Stadium in Saint John’s. Again, don’t let others tell you that such a venue doesn’t exist. Just point them to the video above. Most players on the team these days don’t have criminal records.
From 2009 to 2014, the Newfoundland Skeet Bags cemented their reputation by being “Last Place Champions.”
