Now, you can have one of rarest US coins ever minted on the merch of your choice. It reads below the coin, “If you know, you know” a sly acknowledgement of this ultra rare coin. Here’s just a couple of examples of merch choices you have for this design:
The Incredibly Rare 1943 Copper Penny
The 1943 copper penny is one of the most famous error coins in American history. It exists as a mistake born from wartime sacrifice.
Why It Exists
In 1943, the U.S. Mint replaced copper pennies with zinc-coated steel to save copper for World War II ammunition and equipment. Every planchet was supposed to be steel. But a few leftover copper blanks from 1942 remained stuck in the presses and were accidentally stamped with the 1943 date. Only about 20 to 40 genuine examples are believed to exist, making them extraordinarily rare.
What They’ve Sold For
Even worn examples routinely sell for over $100,000. The unique 1943-D copper cent reportedly sold for $1.7 million in 2010, while a 1943-S brought around $1 million in 2012. Not bad for a one-cent coin.
Beware of Fakes
The coin’s fame invites counterfeits. Some are copper-plated steel cents; others are 1948 pennies with the “8” altered to a “3.” A magnet helps because real steel cents stick, copper doesn’t. Serious buyers will always insist on certified examples.
A simple minting oversight created a true American treasure. Now, it can be yours with this design.
